Inspired by a slow, heel-to-toe, somatic walk through a forest in Moran State Park on Orcas Island, IN THE DEPTHS evokes the feeling of being held—by landscape, by presence, and by another person. Drawing on the compositional structure of Michelangelo's Pietà, Chapek creates a cradle of undergrowth supporting a figure, offering a meditation on intimacy, trust, and belonging.
